The VW/Audi MQB platform combines the practicality of an everyday driver with a powerful turbocharged engine, capable chassis, and an extraordinary differential capable of some awe-inspiring lap times. These highly innovative vehicles demand upgrades that match the impressive engineering Volkswagen and Audi poured into the platform. Thus, the team at Mishimoto set forth to develop the most effective performance air intake for the 2015-2021 Volkswagen MK7 and Audi MQB-platform equipped with the venerable Gen-3 EA888 engine. Airbox volume, shape, and construction material all play a part in delivering maximum airflow to your engine. Our engineering team created an extremely precise rotational-molded thermoplastic airbox that eliminates restrictions, supplies maximum cool-air entry, and improves engine bay aesthetics. The use of thermoplastic material ensures the air intake system will incur minimum engine bay heat soak and provides unmatched durability for years of service in the harshest environments. Our airbox was designed using the latest in 3D printing, CAD modeling, and flow bench technology. As a result, we reduced air intake restriction by 51.7-percent over the stock intake system. This improvement in flow resulted in dyno-proven gains of up to 5.27 HP and 9.23 lb-ft of torque on a stock-tuned MK7 GTI. In addition, this intake kit includes our high-flow oiled air filter, which provides a 52-percent increase in surface area compared to the stock panel filter. This filter provides substantial airflow while preventing harmful contaminants from entering your intake tract. Following the release of our Performance Intake for the 2017-2021 Civic Type R, our engineering team found another aspect of the induction system that could benefit from innovation. The stock turbo inlet pipe is a very sturdy cast-aluminum component that supplies ample airflow for stock and lightly modified vehicles. Despite this, the internal pathway leaves room for improvement for those seeking maximum airflow. Using the latest in 3D printing, CAD modeling, and flow bench technology, we created an optimal pathway for airflow from the air intake box to the turbocharger. These enhancements result in an inlet pipe that is 16.7-percent less restrictive than the stock unit. Our 2017-2021 Civic Type R turbo inlet tube is constructed with a robust CNC-machined cast-aluminum turbo compressor inlet connection flange. This mating surface is designed to OEM specifications, providing a perfect bolt-on fit. The upper portion of the tube is fabricated from mandrel-bent aluminum piping, which is professionally TIG welded to the cast lower. This kit includes a 4-ply silicone coupler to mate the Mishimoto Performance Intake MAF housing with our new inlet tube, as well as high-quality stainless steel worm-gear clamps and an EVAP hose adapter flange to make installation a breeze. We offer the option of either red or black powder-coated finish, providing an excellent aesthetic upgrade for your engine bay. It's time to turn up the heat on your hot-Honda with the Mishimoto Performance Intake Kit for you 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R. The Civic Type R has a long history of showing off the maximum potential that Honda can achieve on its Civic platform. However, we here in the States never had the opportunity to experience Honda's hottest hatchbacks until the FK8 made its way across the Pacific Ocean.Even though the CTR is the cream of the crop when it comes to Honda's compact chassis, It's still a mass-produced car, meaning there is still room to improve, especially when it comes to the intake system. Luckily, the OEM engineers laid the ground work for us attaching an aluminum runner from the turbo to the induction boot. This meant we only had to focus on what was attached to the end of the runner. For starters, we ditched the turbulence generating, accordion-styled intake hose and replaced it with 5 layers of silicone embedded with heat-resistant fibers. Our new and improved hose is also reinforced with steel wire ensuring that it keeps its shape even under the impressive boost the K20C1 puts out. On top of strengthening the intake boot, We've also made sure to increase the diameter and smooth out the interior which greatly assists the overall 42-percent increase in flow throughout the full system.The other contributing factors to our air flow increase are our precision adjusted MAF housing and improved airbox. We started by first separating the two, and then redesigning the MAF housing to ensure an increased flow but also retain safe fuel trim perimeters and run check engine light free on the stock tune. Our airbox grew in size to accommodate our freer flowing filter, and retains the factory rubber snorkel securing the dedicated intake channel incorporated in the CTR?s hood.
