It's no easy feat to be dubbed as one of the fastest front-wheel-drive productions cars in the world. Honda put all of their engineering prowess behind this achievement, but since the 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R finds itself in the gray area of track fiend and commuter car, some sacrifices had to be made. One of those sacrifices comes in the form of the underperforming intercooling system that the FK8 is born with. Under intense driving conditions, or just being caught in a sweltering summer day, the stock tube-and-fin intercooler soaks with heat, quelling the performance of your CTR.We here at Mishimoto aim to put that power back into your hot-Honda by keeping it cool with the Mishimoto 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R Performance Intercooler Kit. We started by increasing the overall size of the core two more than double that of the stock dimensions. The 4.7 inch thick core boasts a 169-percent increase in overall volume, and bumps the external fin surface area by 189-percent for optimal heat rejection properties.We didn?t stop with the size increase either. To keep the charged air flowing properly through the larger core, we updated to a bar-and-plate core construction. The robust design offers not only improved flow characteristics, but also aides in transferring heat away from the charged air. The plastic end tanks are a thing of the past, and have been replaced with our sleek cast aluminum designs to more effectively direct airflow to and from the piping.With the Mishimoto Performance Intercooler Kit, the Intercooler isn?t the only component that received an update, and we took the liberty of overhauling the entire intercooling system. Honda carried some of those sacrifices in the name of mass production over to the intercooler piping as well. If you own an F10 or F13 M5/M6, chances are you’ve already thought about modifying it. A tune and increased boost pressure are usually one of the first mods done, but the factory plastic charge pipes may throw a wrench in your plans. The factory plastic charge pipes are a known weak link in the intake system and it’s not uncommon for them to split at the plastic welds by the turbo or completely burst along the seam, leaving you with a frustrating boost leak. The Mishimoto F1X M5/M6 Charge Pipes are a durable, full aluminum construction, expertly TIG-welded to ensure a smooth and strong airflow path for the S63’s boost. Our charge pipes are specifically designed to deliver optimal airflow with a more uniform shape from turbo to intercooler without sacrificing fitment. To provide the utmost perfect fitment, along with the charge pipes, we also include a CNC-machined 6061 aluminum bracket to hold the metal coolant lines that are supported by the factory intake tubes. Our charge pipe kit also includes a pair of matte black silicone couplers for a secure and stock styled connection to the air-to-water intercooler. Improve the flow of the charged air through your MK7 with the Mishimoto Intercooler Pipe Kit! The GTI has a long pedigreed history in the realm of hot-hatchbacks, especially when it comes to models powered with 4-cylinder turbo engines. The stock piping in Volkswagen?s star player, however, doesn?t quite live up to the hype. Full of bends, restrictive diameters, and constructed from degradation-prone materials, the stock charge pipes can be a hold-up for your MK7, especially when cranking up the boost. Here at Mishimoto, we improved on the intercooler piping system so that you can make your hot-hatch even hotter. We started with replacing all of the plastic and rubber with a more robust construction of mandrel-bent aluminum, and 5-layer, heat resistant silicone couplers to ensure a sturdy and long-lasting connection to and from the intercooler.
